Kenneth M. Oates, MD

Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon
Sub-specialty Certification in Sports Medicine

“There are few things more discouraging than experiencing restrictions on the enjoyment of your favorite activities because of injury or pain. As an athlete and outdoorsman, I understand this frustration and work to return patients to an active lifestyle as quickly as possible.”

Dr. Oates graduated from the University of Washington Summa Cum Laude, where he was a member of the Pac-10 Champion Varsity Lightweight Crew team. He earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania and later studied at the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation, working with the Denver Bronco Football Club and the U.S. and Disabled Ski Teams.

He is a surgical skills instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and Associate Editor for the journal Arthroscopy. Given his extensive experience with sports, it is only natural that his specialty is in dealing with athletic injuries. Dr. Oates understands his patients’ interest in returning to an active lifestyle.

After attending medical school in Pennsylvania and spending six years in internship and residency at the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Oates was pleased to return to the Pacific Northwest with his family. He and his wife enjoy hiking, skiing, karate and spending time with their son and daughter. As a family they enjoy the beauty and recreation this area has to offer and spend a great deal of their time enjoying the outdoors.
